My name is Alice Hasaem Choi, and I am currently a 3rd year student at the University of Western Australia, majoring in Biomedical Science Pharmacology and minoring in Applied Music. I am serving as a Marketing and Data Base Development Intern at KMCC, during this winter period as part of the McCusker Centre for Citizenship Internship program.
I have thankfully experienced a wonderful opportunity to work and communicate closely with the Treasurer, Renee Case, and the Program Manager, Rose Alden, both in person and through a Telegram app forum. My focus is on digital content creation and information technology, which has provided me with hands-on experience in a community-driven, not-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering and connecting the local community.
Before this internship, I wasn’t aware of the different community engagement opportunities in my neighbourhood. This experience has allowed me to explore my community and understand more about the not-for-profit sector.
During my internship at KMCC, I have been actively involved in creating digital content and developing the Centre’s database. The structured orientation and induction processes helped me to integrate smoothly into the team. The use of a Telegram forum for team communications has allowed me to seek clarification when needed and think critically about my questions before asking for assistance.
A significant part of my role has been creating flyers to support and advertise our sustainability collections. These flyers are designed to inform and engage the community about the Cente’s sustainability initiatives, encouraging participation and awareness. Additionally, I have been involved in managing and updating KMCC’s social media platforms. My efforts have focused on ensuring that the Centre’s social media presence is current and engaging. I have aimed to improve the accessibility of information for local residents, providing them with up-to-date news about centre activities, and easy access to important links and resources. This initiative is intended to increase our reach and foster greater community engagement.
KMCC is a wonderful place, brimming with activities that bring our community together in a cozy, and welcoming centre. The sheer volume of activity highlights the need for more hands and funding to ensure these programs continue. I am truly grateful for the chance to assist.
The friendly and inclusive environment at KMCC has not only helped me learn and grow, but also provided me with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the Centre’s vision of unity and diversity. This internship has been an incredibly enriching experience, allowing me to develop my skills in marketing and database generation. More importantly, it has enabled me to make positive contributions that support and enhance the vibrant community we serve.
